Dangerous criminals “settled” on letter-boxes.
In New York post offices you may see posters with photos of 14 “wanted” criminals. All of them are former Soviet Union residents. What are they accused of?
They are mainly drug addicts, who got money for drugs in different ways, more often by stealing social security checks from the mail boxes. Meanwhile letter boxes are the property of the federal post service. And any theft from a box or breaking of the lock is qualified as a crime.
State post inspection service is engaged in searches of such criminals. Above mentioned criminals have already committed post thefts earlier, mainly in Brooklyn. Having served their sentences, they went at large and again have committed a crime and now are wanted.
They basically rob their fellow countrymen. As a rule, they introduce themselves as post couriers, messengers, those who do not carry a uniform, but are connected with the letters delivery. Immigrants with poor English knowledge and pensioners more often become victims of these crimes. Recently the “theft of the personality” became a real disaster.
