United Nations: Iraqis, Chinese and Russians seek asylum most of others
United Nations news service informs that citizens of Iraq, China and Russia lead in the number of petitions about granting an asylum in industrially developed countries.
According to the data of the annual report of United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, Iraqis lead in lists of applicants seeking refuge abroad, the second and third place are taken by citizens of China and Russia. Further come Serbia and Montenegro, and also Turkey.
The majority of refugees wish to move into the USA and France.
In 2006 22,2 thousand Iraqis applied with the request for granting a refuge in industrially developed countries, that is 77 % more, than in 2005.
The number of Russia citizens, seeking a political asylum, the last year has reached 15,7 thousand, and China - 18,3 thousand.
United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees also informs that for the last five years the number of applicants for a refuge in industrially developed countries has reduced more than twice.
Authors of the report consider that such reduction is connected with more tough requirements for the persons to find refuge.
